Beverly (Singer) Zexter, 94
It is with great sorrow that the family of Beverly (Singer) Zexter, announces her passing on July 4, 2025 at Vantage of New Bedford (formerly known as New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home) at the age of 94.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of the late Jack and Aida (Libman) Singer, she resided in New Bedford most of her life.
Beverly attended Kinyon-Campbell Business School and accepted a 6 week temporary position at SMTI (now known as UMass Dartmouth) that resulted in a 26 year career. She worked as a secretary for the Engineering Department and later became secretary to the Dean of the Library.
She was a member of Ahavath Achim Synagogue and later Tifereth Israel Congregation. Beverly served on numerous boards including Hadassah, New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home and Ahavath Achim Sisterhood. She enjoyed volunteering at St. Luke's Hospital Surgery Center, Sister Rose House Soup Kitchen and the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home where she called Bingo for many years. Her favorite activities included bowling, cornhole, cribbage, mahjong, bridge and Rummikub. Beverly was an avid fan of the Patriots and Red Sox as well as watching her son play high school football where she was involved with the New Bedford Gridiron Club.
Beverly touched the lives of many through her humor, kindness, grace and love.
Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her son, Alan Zexter (Jane); daughter Susan DeMelo (Tom); 7 grandchildren, Aaron Zexter ( Laura), Justin Zexter (Ashley), Brendon Zexter (Amanda), Shelby Hamilton (Ned), Michael Watson (Karen), Matthew Watson and Sara Carter (Kevin) and 12 great-grandchildren whom she adored. She is also predeceased by her brother, Richard Singer and sister in law Delores.
The family would like to thank the staff of Autumn Glen, Community Nurse of Fairhaven and Vantage Nursing Home for the care and support provided to Beverly in recent years. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Beverly's memory to:
