16 acres of land on Jordan Road conserved 'in perpetuity'
The vast majority of 16 acres of land on Jordan Road will be protected “in perpetuity” as a conservation restriction has been put on the property under the Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust’s stewardship.
“We’re protecting exceptional natural resources here in terms of endangered species habitats and wetlands,” said Nick Wildman, executive director at the Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust.
The land, located at 179 Jordan Road, is bordered by other properties that are also permanently protected parcels of land.
Currently more than six acres on the property are being used as farmland, which Wildman said is contributing revenue and is part of Dartmouth’s “thriving agricultural community and prime agricultural soils.”
The conservation restriction will allow the continued active use and development on the property in regards to an existing residential portion and the owner’s right to “subdivide and build if desired” on roughly 2 acres of land on the north side of the property, Wildman said.
Wildman called the restriction “an exceptional opportunity for conservation.”
“There’s extensive wetlands. I believe there’s endangered salamanders and other habitat in that back forest,” he said.
