Beach sticker sales start May 10

Apr 23, 2021

Beach season is just around the corner, and stickers will go on sale Monday, May 10, according to the town’s Parks and Recreation department.

Stickers may be purchased Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Parks and Recreation office located on the lower level of the Town Hall, Room 108.

Round Hill Beach will open June 19, while Jones and Apponagansett Parks will be open June 26 through Labor Day.

The Bucket at Apponagansett Park also has a set time and date for its opening. According to the town website, the department's ice cream stand will open on May 28 at noon.

Just like last summer, year-round Dartmouth residents will be able to buy their beach stickers first, with seasonal renters eligible for stickers afterward.

Stickers will cost the same as last year at $35 — or $25 for senior citizens.

Earlier this year, town officials proposed a $5 increase following a request from the town’s Finance Committee in anticipation of economic woes caused by the pandemic.

At a March 22 meeting, Parks and Recreation Board voted against the proposed increase.

Board Member Joe Vieira said that with municipal aid coming from the federal government’s latest Covid relief bill, he did not think that this was the year to raise sticker fees.

“I think that we continue to march and hope for the best,” he added. “There’s just no reason now to increase this.”

Jones and Apponagansett Park day passes will be sold daily to residents at $10 per vehicle.

Hours will remain the same as in past years.

Much like 2020, this year’s stickers come with a host of new temporary restrictions on town beaches for the start of the season.

Group sizes will be limited to 10 or fewer people with groups spaced at least 12 feet apart, and six foot social distancing rules for the restrooms at Round Hill.

Capacity at the popular town beach will remain limited at 250 cars, but Parks and Recreation Director Tim Lancaster said he expects that “those may change prior to official beach opening.”
