Bertha (Athaide) Allison, 95, of Dartmouth died at her home on her birthday, Monday, February 24, 2020. She was the former wife of the late Leonard Allison and daughter of the late Andrew and Marie Athaide.

Born in New Bedford, Mrs. Allison resided in Dartmouth since 1959 and was a parishioner of St. Mary Church in South Dartmouth.

She was employed as head chef at Taber Street Nursing Home for over 20 years until her retirement. Prior to that she was employed as a legal secretary at Morse Twist Drill for 25 years.

Mrs. Allison cared for the wounded at Camp Edwards during World War II.

Known for her generosity, she sponsored a child over seas for many years and contributed regularly to St. Jude Children's Hospital as well as various veterans causes and charities.

Her family includes her 2 sons, Brian E. Allison who was also her caregiver of So. Dartmouth and Jeffrey L. Allison and his wife, Shirley Bates of Marion; 2 grandchildren, Lauren and Bradford and his wife, Kristy and a great-grandchild, Charlotte.

She was the sister of the late Mary Bird, George Athaide, Irene Souza, Gertrude Tavares and Edmund "Red" Athaide.

Her Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Mary Church on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. Visitation in the funeral home prior to the Mass from 8 - 9:15 a.m. Interment in South Dartmouth Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
