Buzzards Bay Coalition conserves 22 acres for salt marsh protection
The Buzzards Bay Coalition recently conserved 22 acres of land on either side of Slocums River, allowing the salt marshes space to move as a rising sea level threatens to down the existing marsh.
The 22 acres of land are located on Little River Road near Little River Farm, which abuts the salt marsh.
The land is split into two sections: a 10-acre stonewall-lined field where the Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust has a conservation restriction and 12.18 acres of forest, which the Coalition will be placing a conservation restriction.
When a piece of land has a conservation restriction placed on it, it becomes permanently protected from development.
Both pieces of land are considered coastal adaption areas, which means that they will be critical for salt marsh ecosystems and salt marsh migration.
