Dartmouth Middle School chorus sings a sleighing song
The Dartmouth Middle School students jingle bell rocked at their annual Christmas choir concert on Monday, Dec. 15.
“They worked so hard and I’m just thrilled to be their teacher,” said middle school Choral Director Tara Thomas. “They are really nice, kind, wonderful children. And how lucky am I to get to sing with them?”
There were two parts to the concert, with the sixth graders singing at 7 p.m. and the seventh and eighth graders singing at 8 p.m. They performed a number of Christmas, Hanukkah and general winter songs.
The sixth graders did a number of songs such as “Flights in the Darkness” and “Nes Gadol Hayah Po,” which means “great miracle happened here.” The sixth graders ended their concert with a light show of holiday colored glowsticks to “Holiday Lights.”
Malia Couto, 12, felt that the concert went “good.” Her favorite part was the song “Holiday Lights” and getting to wave the lights around.
The second half started with the seventh graders, continued with the eighth graders and the grand finale was performed by both grades. Both grades had a number of solos and special sections, such as the baritone section performing “Marshmallow World” and an acapella rendition of “Carol of the Bells.”
“I feel like the performance went really well and everyone’s practice really paid off,” said Meghan Kirby, 13.
Her favorite part was “Carol of the Bells” because of the work they put into it.
Thomas announced that for the first time, the middle school has 12 students going to the Junior District Chorus, a competitive chorus group in Southeastern Massachusetts. She also stated that every class completed her yearly incentive for students to participate and try in class.
“[Music] brings everyone together, brings the community together, teamwork,” said Thomas, “These kids have learned more just in the past few days. I think right now we need a little bit of community building right now.”
