Dartmouth watches Trump become president

Jan 20, 2017

As Donald Trump transitioned from President-elect to President of the United States on January 20, Dartmouth’s eyes were on the inauguration ceremony.

About 10 people sat at the bar to watch the televised inauguration at the Veterans of Foreign Wars post on Cross Road, said assistant manager Glenda Souza.

While turnout was lower than Souza had expected because the post’s outdoor electronic sign was being repaired, the atmosphere was upbeat and celebratory, she said.

“Everyone here was happy, they even said 'bye, bye' to Obama,” Souza said. “They had a celebratory drink.”

Elsewhere in Dartmouth, Massachusetts Republican State Committee's Second Bristol and Plymouth committeeman Brock Cordeiro had tickets to attend the inauguration ceremony, but was unable to attend.

“It’s exciting. Republicans are back in control, and I’m hoping for policy changes,” Cordeiro said.

Cordeiro said he had recorded the ceremony, and planned to stream it during his lunch break.
