DNRT hosts second annual bonfire
Smoke filled the air, as people roasted hot dogs and marshmallows over a fire during the Dartmouth Natural Resource Trust's second annual Solstice Bonfire.
Linda Vanderveer, the land manager, has Swedish ancestry and wanted to bring her traditions to the South Coast.
“They have long winters, so any kind of celebration of spring, summer seasons is very important," she said at the bonfire, which was held on Thursday, July 14.
The event was originally scheduled for June 18, which was the summer solstice. The solstice is the longest day of the year, but due to high wind speeds, the bonfire was delayed.
“We’re super connected to nature,” said Development and Outreach Specialist Kendra Parker, "So the change of the seasons is always for and exciting for us as we’re starting to see everything come to life.”
Many people tried different ways to roast their hot dogs; some held them over the fire, some held them in the fire while others balanced sticks against the logs.
During the event, Dave Alves played live music on the guitar and sang. Daemien, age 12, described the event as “good.”
“We love to have events and just bring the community together and hang out and have fun,” said Parker.
