High school football picks up historic win against Bridgewater-Raynham

Oct 12, 2016

It’s a feat that hasn’t been accomplished since 2008, but on October 7, the Dartmouth High football team beat league rival Bridgewater-Raynham 13-6.

The Indians headed into the game strong on both offense and defense, and by halftime they commanded a 13-0 lead. Despite determination to keep that lead going into the third quarter, Bridgewater-Raynham was able to set itself up for a touchdown after the Indians suffered a 15-yard penalty and an incomplete pass on their first third down.

From that moment on, the Indians shifted its field positioning to prevent any more Bridgewater-Raynham touchdowns, which resulted in the final 13-6 score.

“We haven’t beaten [Bridgewater-Raynham] since 2008, so that was big for us,” said head coach Rick White.

White said he knew it would be a tough game, so he and his coaching staff planned in advance to train more intensely for the game.

“We typically gauge ourselves on how well we play against [Bridgewater-Raynham],” White said. “We’re proud of how our kids responded. They showed up ready to play on Friday night.”

White said that the team is already looking forward to its next key games: a match against non-league rival New Bedford on October 14, and the October 21 matchup against Old Colony League rival Barnstable.

The win keeps the Indians undefeated this season at 5-0.
