Jolly old... Krampus?
Many are excited for Santa Claus to come to town, but what about when Krampus does? Krampus did visit Dartmouth, stopping by Midnight, Moonlight and Magick at the Dartmouth Mall on Saturday, Dec. 20. And when Krampus comes to town, he brings presents just like Santa does.
“People have their misconceptions of [Krampus] and he’s a holiday deity just like Santa. Except Krampus has a reputation for bad kids,” said Florrie Steele, the co-owner of Midnight, Moonlight and Magick, “But today he is helping raise money for children.”
During their fundraiser, the store gathered a large bin-full of toys and raised $329. The store then matched this for a total of nearly $660 going directly to families in need.
The toys will be going to a number of local charities including Toys for Tots, the Salvation Army and Angel Tree.
“They’re always stretched so thin because so many families apply during this time of year because they truly need it,” said Steele, “So this is another way for us to give back. Our community has been great with us, our community has been so supportive of us, and this is our way of giving back to our community.”
This is the second year that Krampus visited Dartmouth, and the store was able to raise almost double the amount they did in 2024.
Kids who took a photo with Krampus could swing a pendulum that would decide if they were naughty or nice. This decision was not final, and so Santa will make the final decision. Regardless, Krampus gave the kids a candy cane afterwards.
