Kindergarteners beat the heat with a fire hose
Ninety-degree weather couldn't slow down Cushman School students on June 13 because they had access to a heavy-duty cooling system.
Playing with a fire hose — supervised, of course — was just part of the kindergarteners' field trip to the District No. 1 fire station on Bridge Street.
"We come every year, and they learn about fire safety," said Teacher Cheryle Kamm.
The students watched a video, chatted with firefighters, and toured the station while learning to wear a seat belt, have an emergency meeting place at home, and not play with matches.
Outside, the 24-student class, along with chaperones and teachers, took turns hitting a target with the fire hose. The students chanted "Make it rain," urging Firefighter Anthony Poente to shoot water up into the air for the kids to dance around in.
