On Sunday, May 4, YMCA Southcoast’s Sharing the Harvest Community Farm will participate in Project Bread’s 57th Walk for Hunger.

For the seventh year in a row, Sharing the Harvest Community Farm, which is a Dartmouth-based nonprofit that raises money for statewide hunger relief, will raise money during the walk to support statewide food security.

“The Walk for Hunger is our opportunity to make an immediate difference in the lives of thousands of our neighbors,” said Erin McAleer, the president and CEO of Project Bread. “Together, as a community, we’re making sure people can access food with dignity and choice each day.”

Project Bread, the leading statewide food security in Massachusetts, began the Walk for Hunger in 1969, bringing together a diverse community dedicated to ensuring food security across the state.

The money raised during previous Walks for Hunger has helped Sharing the Harvest Community Farm purchase annual supplies, cover its tractor repair and maintenance costs, as well as other expenses related to managing a small vegetable production farm, said Ashley Brister, the farm director of Sharing the Harvest Community Farm.

This year the organization aims to raise $15,000, with up to 75 volunteers walking the three-mile loop around Apponogansett Park.

The walk, which begins at 9 a.m., will feature family-friendly activities, food and entertainment. The route will be on fully paved sidewalks, allowing people with mobility devices, young children and others to participate. ASL interpreters and multilingual staff will also be present throughout the event.

To register for the event or to support a walker or team with a donation, visit give.projectbread.org/walk. Individual walkers are encouraged to fundraise a minimum of $25 and teams are encouraged to fundraise a minimum of $250. Those who raise $500 or more will be recognized as Heart & Sole walkers and will receive access to personalized fundraising support, exclusive event gear, free breakfast on Walk Day and invitations to exclusive events.
