Mary J. Souza, 98, of New Bedford, formerly of South Dartmouth, died Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at St. Luke's Hospital. She was the wife of the late Joseph J. Souza.

She was born in New Bedford and the daughter of the late Manuel and Virginia (Fraga) Jason of South Dartmouth.

She was a graduate of Dartmouth High School, class of 1938. Mrs. Souza retired from Shaw's Supermarket but previously worked at Cornell Dubilier, and owned and operated Mary's Dainty Shop in New Bedford.

She was a member of the Moose Golden Age Club, and enjoyed serving as a secretary and entertainment chairlady for many years.

She was the sister of the late Manuel Jason, Jr., and is survived by several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Her mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Church in South Dartmouth on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at 10 a.m. Visitation will be in the funeral home prior to the Mass, from 8:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. Interment will be at St. John Cemetery.
