Northern Scenic Greenway onto the next step
The Northern Scenic Greenway, a proposed shared-use path that would connect Westport and New Bedford along Old Fall River Road, now has a contract with a corporation that will survey the property.
The town of Dartmouth, along with Westport and New Bedford, appropriated the funds to contract a company to conduct a preliminary design and engineering about the greenway, which went to the South Coast Bikeway Alliance. They then selected the Southeastern Regional Planning and Economic Development District to administer the contract. After a bidding period, Pare Corporation from Rhode Island was selected to conduct the survey.
Members of the Dartmouth Pathways Committee, the Alliance and Pare conducted a walkthrough of the planned location of the shared use path on Sept. 17. On this, they walked some parts and drove parts that were unwalkable. Pare took preliminary measurements.
This study will include looking into records such as right of way. After the study is completed, Pare will present a conceptual design and open a public comment period.
