Summer programs coming to the Dartmouth Public Library
The Dartmouth Public Library will be offering summer programs for kids, teens and adults beginning on Tuesday, June 23. Programs will include a diverse range of educational and entertaining events for all ages, including musical experiences, puppet shows, gardening workshops, arts and crafts, and more.

Family programs:
CactusHead Puppets: Magnificent Monster Circus
On Tuesday, June 23 a puppet show will be coming to the Southworth and North Branch Libraries. It will be held at 2 p.m. at Southworth and 5 p.m. at North Branch. The show will feature friendly monsters in a multi-sensory show and will also feature a Q&A session at the end.
Records and Burpee Zoo Show
On Tuesday, June 30, seven or eight exotic or unusual animals will be visiting the libraries. Typical animals include an alpaca, squirrel monkey, large python, large tortoise, striped skunk and young alligators. This event is best for ages 4 and up and will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the Southworth Library and at 4 p.m. at the North Branch Library.
Backyard Band Jams
On Tuesday, July 7, families will have an opportunity to engage in musical play with new and traditional songs, sing-along storybooks, props and instruments. Children will learn core musical skills through immersive music play. This event will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the Southworth Library and at 4 p.m. at the North Branch Library.
Spread the Light African Drumming
On Tuesday, July 14 partake in an immersive drum workshop, which will focus on elements of traditional rhythms from Ghana and West Africa. Participants will explore topics such as polyrhythm and call and response, all of which will be played on authentic, hand-crafted instruments. This event is best for ages 5 and up and will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the Southworth Library and at 4 p.m. at the North Branch Library.
Stomp, Chomp and Read: A Jurassic Balloon Magic Adventure
On Tuesday, July 21, a show featuring dinosaurs, prehistoric sea creatures, magic and "Jungle Jim" hatching out of a six-foot balloon dinosaur egg will be coming to the Southworth and North Branch libraries. This event is recommended for ages 3 to 12 and will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the Southworth Library and at 4 p.m. at the North Branch Library.
Ed the Wizard: Alchemy
Magic will be meeting real science on Tuesday, July 28. Using common household items, kids will learn and help perform magical feats like transfiguration, vanishes, levitation and other forms of "Alchemy Magic." This event is best for ages 5 and up and will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the Southworth Library and at 4 p.m. at the North Branch Library.
Didgeridoo Down Under Show
On Tuesday, Aug. 4 the Didgeridoo Down Under Show, an energetic fusion of Australian music, culture, comedy, character building, storytelling and audience movement and participation for an adventure in "The Land Down Under." This event is best for ages 5 and up and will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the Southworth Library and at 4 p.m. at the North Branch Library.
Programs for teens and adults
All teen and adult programs will be open to ages 11 and up and will take place at the Southworth Library starting at 2 p.m.
Indoor Mushroom Growing Workshop
On Friday, June 26, Blackstone Valley Veggie Gardens will teach attendees how to start their own indoor mushroom harvest. During the workshop, participants will put together a quart container that they can bring home to grow mushrooms.
Needle Felted Wildflower Hoop
In this needle felting class scheduled for Friday, July 10, create a stunning felted landscape showcasing mountains and vibrant wildflowers. Using a barbed needle, loose wool fibers and a felt-backed embroidery hoop, learn how to “paint” with wool.
Book Cover Bricks Painting Workshop
In this workshop scheduled for Friday, July 24, participants will paint book covers on a real brick, perfect for a bookshelf or garden display. Supplies will be provided.
Clay Sea Turtle Bowl Workshop
On Friday, Aug. 7, create a turtle-themed bowl with air dry clay. With guidance from Pop up Art School, attendees will craft, paint and finish a piece in no time.
Quick Pickling Workshop
On Friday, Aug. 21, Blackstone Valley Veggie Gardens will show participants how to pickle vegetables, including summer squash, zucchini and cucumbers. Attendees will be able to make their own batch and go home with a jar of pickles they made themselves.

All community members are also invited to participate in "Plant a Seed, Read," a summer reading initiative designed to encourage reading throughout the summer months. The program offers fun and flexible ways to participate, including interactive challenges, chances to win prizes and opportunities to explore new books.
