Dartmouth Public Schools superintendent scores high in yearly evaluation
On Monday, Nov. 10, the Dartmouth School Committee reviewed their Superintendent Evaluation, scoring Superintendent June Saba-Maguire as either meeting or being proficient in each category.
These categories include professional practice goals, superintendent performance goals, family and community engagement and professional culture. They also focused on meeting district improvement goals, instructional leadership and implementing the vision of “One Dartmouth.”
During the School Committee meeting, member John Nunes reviewed the outcomes from the evaluation. He prefaced by explaining that they must be careful when giving a score of "exceeding expectations" or "exemplarly" — which are one score above "met" and "proficient" — because it doesn’t leave much room for growth or for hiccups to occur.
“There were a couple of instances that exemplary was there, but it was not enough to record an exemplary, per se,” he said.
After reviewing Saba-Maguire’s performance over the past year, Nunes read some statements from members of the School Committee.
“Dr. June Saba Maguire is a strong leader whose performance has resulted in significant, measurable progress across the Dartmouth public school district,” he read.
He continued, “Her leadership is defined by exceptional strength in systematic management and operational excellence, which has provided the stable, efficient foundation necessary to execute the district’s ambitious new strategic plan.”
Another member called Saba-Maguire a “data driven, ethically motivated, child focused, superintendent who is getting things done.”
Saba-Maguire also had a chance to speak at the evaluation, stating, “I, like all educators, are always striving to meet exemplary standards, and that certainly has not changed in the course of my career, and certainly not since I’ve been here.”
She acknowledged that there’s a team of people working with her to get the work done.
“When you think about the number of people that it takes to support a school district of over 3,000 students, it’s a pretty monumental task, and that can’t be done by any single person,” she said.
Saba-Maguire added, “My responsibility as a superintendent is to do the best job that I can to provide the team.”
