Town Election is almost here, with one contested race
With Dartmouth’s annual town election scheduled for Tuesday, April 7 and less than one week away, the town ballot is set to feature four people vying for one seat on the Select Board, eight uncontested races and two ballot questions.
The candidates running for Select Board are Kevin Melo, Curtis Nunes, Adelino Oliveira and Nathan Silva.
In addition to the Select Board race, the positions that will appear on the ballot include the following: one seat for Board of Accessors, two seats for School Committee, two seats for the Library Board of Trustees, two seats for the Board of Health, one seat for Planning Board, one seat for the Parks and Recreation Board and one seat for the Housing Authority.
There is no one running for the Board of Accessor’s seat but there is a write in option.
For school committee, incumbents Kathleen Amaral and Elizabeth Coughlin are running for the two seats. Joan-Marie Proulx and Lisa Ann Tufano are running for the two seats on the Library Board of Trustees. Emily Olmstead is running for the three-year seat and James Griffith is running for the unexpired one year seat on the Board of Health. For the Planning Board, incumbent Kevin Estes is running. Sherri Tetrault is running to be a member of the Parks and Recreation Board. David Brodeur is running to be a member of the Housing Authority.
There are two charter questions on the ballot.
If approved, the first question would expand the Board of Public Works from three to five members. Two of the members would be appointed for two years, two members would be appointed for three years and one would be appointed for one year. After each member’s term expires, they would all be appointed for a term of three years.
The second would be an amendment to charter section 6-5 of the rules and regulations, which states when new rules and regulations go into effect. Currently rules and regulations become effective after being posted with the Town Clerk. If this amendment gets passed, the rules and regulations would go into effect on either January 1 or July 1, depending on when the town organization files with the Town Clerk.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at eight locations across town, based on a voter’s precinct. To confirm voting location, visit https://www.sec.state.ma.us/divisions/elections/elections-and-voting.html
