UMass student accused of murder, assault held without bail in Providence

Chukwunonso David Uzeoma-Eze, the 19-year-old accused of killing Marvins Antoine, is being held without bail in Providence, Rhode Island.

Uzeoma-Eze and Antoine were both students at UMass Dartmouth. On Sept. 19, they were at a lounge restaurant Mezzo in Providence with another student, Kensley Macean. A fight broke out, when Uzeoma-Eze allegedly used a pocket knife to murder Antoine and injure Macean. 

He is being charged with one count of murder and one count of assault with a knife. Both of these are felony charges. 

Uzeoma-Eze was extradited to Providence on Friday, Sept. 25. He was heard in the Providence District Court on Monday, Sept. 28. 

The judge ordered a non-domestic no-contact order for Macean, meaning that Uzeoma-Eze cannot have any form of contact with Macean. 

The judge decided that his case will be transferred to the Providence Superior Court, who will decide if he will be granted bail. The date for this has not been set. Uzeoma-Eze will be held until then. 

Uzeoma-Eze has struggled with mental health issues, having told police he has previously attempted suicide. He asked the police during booking to “just shoot me.”

He was originally brought to a hospital for psychiatric evaluation after this statement, where he was held until arraignment in New Bedford. He is currently being held at the Adult Corrections Institutions in Rhode Island.
