Water main breaks near Bryant Street, motorists asked to avoid area
A water main break near 54 Bryant Street is being repaired by the Department of Public Works Water and Sewer Division, and water is expected to be turned back on by this afternoon to evening.
The damage is currently isolated to the property with no other damage having been reported.
The break was caused by extended periods of sub-freezing temperatures, which allowed frost to go deeper into the ground than usual, according to Communications Manager Jessica Dastous. When the soil froze, it expanded and placed pressure on the water main. The soil then contracted when temperatures warmed up, straining the pipes and causing the main to break.
To repair the water main, the Department of Public Works has shut water off for residents living on Bryant Street from Coggeshall Street to Wilbur Avenue, as well as Goldman Avenue.
Motorists are asked to avoid the area so crew are able to repair the damage.
The Water and Sewer Division can be reached at 508-999-0742 for any urgent questions.
