Wind spreads campfire to shed
Dartmouth resident Scott Avila was enjoying a campfire in his backyard on April 9 when he was called into his house by his kids. In those few moments, his peaceful campfire had spread to the shed of his 346 Fisher Road property.
"His kids had gotten ahold of spray paint or something. When he came back out, a neighbor was yelling that his shed was on fire," recounted District No. 2 Fire Chief Tim Andre.
Wind had blown leaves from the outskirt of the fire toward the shed, catching both the shed and fencing on fire, said Andre.
"The shed remained standing, but everything inside it was burnt," said Andre, adding that bikes and power equipment were stored in the 8-by-10-foot shed.
The call had come in shortly after 3 p.m., and firefighters were able to put it out within minutes, said Andre.
There were no injuries, said Andre.
