Dartmouth middle schoolers take a peek at some future career opportunities
On Wednesday, Jan. 14, Dartmouth Middle School seventh graders got a glimpse into their potential future career paths in the school’s annual career day.
Twenty-nine local professionals attended the event to share their jobs with over 280 students and show the students what some potential career paths are.
“The event aimed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world application,” wrote guidance counselor Sarah Dury.
Students rotated through sessions, where the professionals answered their questions and gave demonstrations. Experts ranged from creative artists to high-tech specialists.
“By sharing their personal journeys, including the challenges and successes of their careers, these speakers provided students with invaluable insider knowledge and experiences that cannot be found in a textbook,” Dury wrote.
The career show offered a variety of job opportunity examples to students in arts and entertainment, STEM and technology, public safety and health, and professional services.
Among the professionals were a film producer, an Air Force veteran, a police officer, lawyers and local business owners.
“The roster of guest speakers represented a wide spectrum of industries, ensuring that every student could find a career within an area of interest,” Dury wrote.
The goal of the career day is to spark students’ interest and get them thinking about their futures while also showing them that there are numerous paths they can follow.
“Whether a student is interested in the intricacies of physics or the creativity of fashion textiles, they walked away today with a better understanding of the paths to get there.” Dury wrote.
This annual career day event is made possible through partnerships with community members and local businesses.
“We are very grateful for the professionals who shared their time and experience,” Dury wrote.
