Born in New Bedford, Derek resided in Dartmouth; graduate of Dartmouth High School; parishioner of St. Mary Church.
Employed as a roofer with Capeway Roofing until his illness.
Survivors: wife, Sandra P. Amaral; parents, Nelson and Giselle Amaral; daughters, Ava and Aubrey Amaral; sister, Stacey Carvalho and husband, Benjamin; mother-in-law, Dolores Tiburcio; brother-in-law, Daniel Tiburcio; nephews and niece, Hunter, Zackary, Parker, and Olivia Carvalho; aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Son-in-law of the late Aniceto Tiburcio; grandson of the late José and Maria DaSilva and Maria and Silvino Amaral.
Visiting hours May 7, 2026, 5:00-8:00 PM. Funeral May 8, 2026, 8:30 AM at the funeral home; Mass in St. Mary Church, So. Dartmouth at 10:00 AM. Interment :Rural Cemetery.
