Donald L. Andrade, 72
Donald L. Andrade, 72, of Dartmouth died December 26, 2025 at Brigham & Womens Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Wareham, son of the late Manuel and Katherine (Fonseca) Andrade, he lived in New Bedford before moving to Dartmouth 20 years ago.
He was a man who was charismatic lighthearted, and always looking to the bright side. He was a perfectionist with astute attentiveness to detail. Sentimental and nostalgic with commemorative keepsakes. An avid foodie, loving good times and laughter with his family and friends while dining out, cooking in and during his unforgettable annual Thanksgiving dinners. Extremely gifted in the culinary arts department sharing tips, tricks and new recipes with his twin, often tapping into their matriarchal predecessors' cookbooks, to deliver an unforgettable experience to the pallette. Munchup, kale soup, American chop suey and the best clam boils were just a few weapons in his edible repertoire. His artistic abilities extended but certainly not limited to: charcoal contrasts, graphite, figurative and realism. This natural ability gave him an overwhelming edge in the masonry industry which he learned from his father at a particularly early age. Combining these crafts made him exceedingly proficient in his trades. Phenomenal at improvising in the most tense, time restraint situations. He was business savy, took on many jobs of his own and worked for numerous years with Demello's concrete, while consistently weathering the toughest dips in the economy over time. In addition he was always there to help a friend and/or family member with their projects, exponentially boosting the value of their assets. A man with many talents is a harsh understatement! He will be missed more than words could ever express.
Survivors include his daughter, Cassandra Lima of New Bedford; 3 sons, Niles Andrade, Donald Andrade-McAuliffe and Darrin Barros; 3 sisters, his twin Donna Beverly of New Bedford, Gwendolyn "Wendi" Barros and her husband John of Dartmouth and Linda Crawford and her husband Hardrick of Clinton, MD; 3 brothers, Manuel Andrade, Jr., Warren Andrade and Stanley Grace, all of New Bedford; his favorite uncle, a patriarch of the family, John Andrade and his wife of Buzzards Bay; 4 grandchildren, Quinn McAuliffe, Hayden Andrade, Colton Lima and Ronin Andrade; his 2 best friends, David "Williams" Bennett and Donald "Don Don" Gomes of Onset; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Henry "Ricky" Grace and Franklin Grace. His Funeral will be held on Monday, January 5th at 9 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 10 AM. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Sunday, January 4th from 2-6 PM. For directions and guestbook, visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
