To the Editor: Regarding political signage
Jun 16, 2026
To the Editor,
An opinion letter in the subject edition of Dartmouth Week decried the proliferation of political signage in our area, referring to it as "pollution". Well, apparently the author of the letter doesn't understand the difference between "pollution" and public exposure, which is considered by most folks as a critical element of any election campaign for public office. In this particular case, the author is correct, there are a great many signs for this particular candidate.
Let's see now, what might that indicate? Well, for one thing, the candidate has a great many supporters, as these signs cannot be placed on private property without the owners permission. Hmmm - might that not mean that the candidate is well known and respected both professionally and personally? That seems logical - also might be factored in as well as the reputation of the candidate's family of origin. Could it be that many of these folks know that the family of origin has an unpublicized, quietly earned reputation for service to others, and therefore the candidate comes from good stock? Hmmm. Well, eventually those signs will be removed, win or lose, but the qualities and reputations that inspired their presence will long endure. God Bless America.
