Dartmouth High School girls lacrosse sticks to a season of growth

As the spring sports season gets underway at Dartmouth High School the girls varsity lacrosse team is looking to play a season of growth.
Arden Dennehy, a senior and one of three team captains, said that the team has started the season “really strong,” so far winning three games and losing one.
These wins come after two previous seasons where the team lost their opening games, which Dennehy said had made it hard “getting to the swing of things.”
Co-captain Avery Smith noted that the start of the season was a “big turning point compared to previous seasons.”
She attributed this not only to having an older team this year but also coming into the season “working very hard” and approaching each game with positive energy.
“We have a lot of hardworking players on this team who want it, and I feel like we came in ready to play,” Smith said.
Co-captain Lily Gangi noted that with each passing game the team has become closer to each other.
“We just hope to continue the winning and the camaraderie,” she said.
While the season is just getting started, Gangi said that it’s been “surreal being a senior.”
“We’re best friends, so it’s hard knowing that it’s going to come to an end,” she said.
With seven seniors on the team, Smith said that it being many of the girls’ final season “makes us want to push the best we can.”
Head Coach Nicole Simas said that the seniors are a “big focal point in what we do,” noting that they “work really hard, push everyone to be better and are just great athletes.”
The regular playing season will come to an end on May 20 before playoffs for the teams that qualified begin.
Simas noted that Dartmouth plays in a tough conference, making it difficult to know how the state tournament will unfold, adding that the focus is currently on “developing, playing for each other, and just working hard and getting better.”
Gangi said, “We just hope to continue winning and the camaraderie, and we’ve all become so much closer as each game has passed.”
