John Viveiros Almeida, 70

Sep 24, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved John Viveiros Almeida who left us on September 18, 2025, at the age of 70 after succumbing to complications from prolonged vacillatory issues and COPD.

John was born on May 4, 1955, in Dartmouth Massachusetts to parents John V. and Mary V. Almeida. Johnny, as he was most affectionately known, spent most of his adult life in Westport, Massachusetts. He will be remembered fondly by his family, neighbors, and close friends, particularly those from VFW Post 9059, with whom he shared a special bond.

Johnny graduated from Dartmouth High School and spent the greater part of his career working for Eversource Electric Company as a valued electrician and welder. He also worked as a fisherman for a stint, following in a long line of many proud Portuguese family members.

In addition to his parents, Johnny is predeceased by his wife, Suzanne J. Almeida; son, John R. Almeida; and brother, Russell V. Almeida (a decorated veteran who was killed in the Vietnam war).

Johnny is survived by his older brother, Noel Almeida of Cape Cod; sister, Charlotte Vieira of California; six nieces and nephews; and 12 grand nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.

Family remembers times when Johnny sought creative outlet remaking cars, particularly Corvettes and go-carts that he would ride around the neighborhood in his younger years. He enjoyed animals, including his beloved cat, Buddy, hunting and working on his tractors around his yard.

A celebration of life will be held in the spring around Johnny’s birthday by his graveside at Maple Grove Cemetery. A specific date and time will be announced closer to that date. Friends, neighbors, family, and all whose lives were touched by Johnny are invited to attend and share their memories.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Vietnam Veterans of America:   https://vva.org/.

Johnny will be forever remembered, forever missed, and forever loved.
