Meet the 9th Bristol County State Representative candidates
The race to succeed Rep. Chris Markey in the state Legislature representing Dartmouth and part of New Bedford, features primary contests on both the Democratic and Republican sides.
After 15 years in the House seat, Democrat Markey is seeking election as the Bristol County district attorney this fall.
Vying to take his place in the State House are Democrats Steve Medeiros and Ed Pacheco and Republicans Henry Bousquet and Chester Tam.
While the primary is Tuesday, Sept. 1, early in-person voting will begin on Saturday, Aug. 22, while mail-in ballots are already in the hands of many voters.
During the primary elections, residents in Dartmouth will choose a candidate for the ninth Bristol County State Representative, who will represent Dartmouth and part of New Bedford.
Voters registered as Republican will get Republican ballots, and those registered as Democrat will get Democrat ballots. Voters enrolled in neither party may choose either ballot.
