Prestige car wash closed for bylaw violations
The Department of Public Works denied TD Construction a utility layer license, which allows contractors to work on sewer and water pipes, during the Thursday, Jan. 22 Board of Public Works meeting. The company was working on Prestige Car Wash on 271 State Road, which has been closed for the second time due to ignoring Department of Public Works bylaws.
Initially, the work was permitted by the building department but Public Works was not made aware of the site plan or review, and was not consulted during construction. TD Construction did not consult Public Works for utility markouts, and during construction they hit the water service, which required it being shut off.
Seeing as the ones working on this project were not utility layer licensed, they were told construction had to be halted, and the car wash shut down for the time being. Days later, a member of the Public Works Department noticed a car exiting the open car wash.
The company had fixed and turned on the pipe without inspection or permission, resulting in the highest fine of $300.
The letter of recommendation to be licensed was from 2020, and following the other issues, the board decided to deny his request for a utility layer license.
“The guys already got three strikes,” said Board of Public Works member Ron Labelle.
