Sophie Teresa (Stys) Golen, aged 95, passed away on October 11, 2024, in Dartmouth surrounded by family. Born on July 23, 1929, Sophie was a devoted and cherished member of her community.

Sophie graduated from Durfee High School in Fall River, Massachusetts. She began her professional life as a dental hygienist from 1948 to 1950. Later, she supported her husband's business, Frank Golen Junior and Associates, as an assistant from 1952 until 1979. Sophie also worked as a bookkeeper for Lengo Realty Corporation from 1965 to 2008, showcasing her meticulous and diligent nature.

Sophie was a lifelong parishioner at Holy Cross Polish National Catholic Church in New Bedford and Blessed Trinity Polish National Catholic Church in Fall River. Her faith and community played significant roles throughout her life.

Traveling and visiting relatives in Poland were among Sophie's favorite pursuits, reflecting her love for heritage and family connections. She enjoyed watching hummingbirds feeding out the porch window.

Sophie was preceded in death by her parents, John and Teresa Stys, and her husband, Frank Golen Junior. She is survived by her son, Richard Frank Golen; daughter, Donna Sophie Parker; daughter-in-law, Debra Jean Golen; son-in-law, Nicholas Parker; brother, Thaddeus Stys; grandsons, Erik Frank Golen, Ross Raymond Golen, and Alexander Richard Noble Golen; and great-grandsons, Henry, Charles, and Erik-James Golen.

Sophie's life was marked by her dedication to her family and her faith. Her legacy will be cherished and remembered by all who knew her.

Her visiting hours will be held on Thursday October 17th from 4-8 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Her funeral service will be held on Friday October 18th at 9 AM in the funeral home followed by burial in the Polish National Cemetery on Phillips Road.
