Woman finds larva in Jersey Mike’s sub

On Tuesday, July 28, Kayla Nelson of Virginia bit into a sub she bought from Jersey Mike’s on Faunce Corner Mall Road and found an alive larva allegedly “embedded directly in the food.”
Nelson said the larva was mostly clear with a green strip down the middle, and in a video she recorded it could be seen inching along the sub.
“When I received my food, I took a bite of my turkey sandwich and I found a green worm just squirming around the sandwich,” she said.
The exact identification of the insect can't be "positively identified" due to the quality of the image and the fact that it's in the larval stage, according to the Dartmouth Board of Health.
After finding the larva, Nelson contacted the Board of Health, which sent an inspector to Jersey Mike’s on Wednesday, July 29.
She said the Jersey Mike’s general manager told her Thursday that the establishment passed the inspection and is now waiting for an update from the Board of Health.
“I just don’t want it to happen to someone else because I’m grossed out,” Nelson said.
According to the Board of Health, there were no findings of insects or infestations during the inspection.
When the Board of Health conducts an investigation, they look for both life forms or signs of life. This includes larvae, exoskeleton parts, eggs, odors, webs and droppings.
