YMCA Southcoast is participating in the annual Project Bread walk
Event Date
YMCA Southcoast’s Sharing the Harvest Farm is participating in the 58th Annual Project Bread’s Walk for Hunger on May 3 for the 8th year.
The main walk is happening in Boston, but YMCA Southcoast will be participating virtually in Dartmouth.
Starting at 9 a.m., over 50 participants will walk three miles along Padanaram, with signs and banners to celebrate Sharing the Harvest Farm.
Sharing the Harvest Rise was started in 2006 as a grassroots effort to get families consistent access to locally grown, healthy produce.
“The Walk for Hunger is a powerful way to bring our community together in support of a shared mission,” says Ashley Brister, Farm Director of Sharing the Harvest Community Farm. “As we celebrate our 20th season, this event helps ensure we can continue growing and donating fresh, healthy food to our neighbors while strengthening a more equitable and resilient local food system.”
The goal is to raise $15,000 to support the farm with production, staffing and distribution. They will receive 60% of the funds they raise, with 40% going to Project Bread to support broader statewide efforts.
Project Bread is a statewide food access organization that began in 1969. They work to create system changes to make it that everyone can access healthy food.
“Every annual Walk, every dollar raised moves us closer to a Massachusetts where no family has to wonder where they will get their next meal,” says Erin McAleer, President & CEO of Project Bread. “Coming together as an anti-hunger community is at the heart of this effort. YMCA Southcoast’s Sharing the Harvest Farm’s commitment to ending food insecurity, along with the dedication of walkers and supporters, makes Massachusetts healthier and stronger for all of us.”
