Morgan Aytch and Mark sang. As the sun set behind The Bucket, “That 80s Band” started off the Summer Concert Series with popular favorites from the 1980s.
“It’s a beautiful night and we’ve enjoyed it … a few times before,” said Kim Perry of Dartmouth, who came to see the show. “It’s a nice community event. Dartmouth should be proud of this.”
“That 80s Band” plays from the Cape to Quincy, and this wasn’t their first time playing in the summer concert series. This year, they had five members performing; Mark on guitar and occasionally singing, Mike on bass, Andy on the keyboard, Tommy on drums and Morgan Aytch on mic.
“I think it’s going to be a fun day, and we did it last year,” said Aytch. “It was fun, so I expect it to be similar if not better.”
She added, “I wish I was able to catch the other bands, but I’m still busy in this band, but I hope everybody else has a great time.”
Aytch joined the band eight years ago, and said she enjoys adding “...a little dash…” of the 80s attire into their performances.
This is the 26th annual Summer Concert Series, according to Parks and Recreations director Rebecca Amaral.
“It’s an enjoyable, affordable night out,” said Scott Lariviere of Taunton.
During the concert on Wednesday, June 17, they played 80s classics like; “I Love Rock and Roll” by Joan Jett, “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” by Cyndi Lauper and “Love Shack” by The B-52s.
A majority of guests enjoyed the music from folding chairs and picnic blankets, but a few got up and danced to the pop music. The Bucket served food, Italian ice and ice cream.
“They get people from all over the surrounding communities that come … to the event,” said Amaral. “It’s great for families that can play in the playground, watch the sunset, grab some ice cream [or] some dinner.”
Amaral stated that the concert series started off very small, with the Parks and Recreation department finding and asking bands to come to now having bands reach out to perform.
The concerts cost $5 a day, or $30 for all 11 concerts. The money goes to support Parks and Recreation, which helps with park improvements.
“We like it,” said Vivian and Madeline, ages 7 and 8.
