Art Drive returns to Dartmouth

Dartmouth is full of talented artists, and the annual Art Drive is a great opportunity to learn more about them. The Art Drive is returning to Dartmouth and Westport from Friday, Aug. 7 to Sunday, Aug. 9. 

Of the 30 artists, there are 21 Dartmouth artists participating in the Art Drive. There’s a medium for everyone, from wood to painting to sculptures. A full map of participating artists can be found at https://the-art-drive.com/map/. 

There’s artists making handmade wooden furniture, like Gary Adriance. Others use wood to make sculptures that show off wildlife from around Buzzards Bay, like John Magnan. Both studios are located at 288 Gulf Road. 

Others create paintings, using everything from oil, acrylics, watercolor and even copper plate etchings. Carol Bliven uses oils and pastels to create local landscapes and seascapes. Her studio is located at 49 Plains Field Drive. Michael Hubert, at 24 Highland Street, uses acrylics to create pieces between abstraction and depiction. Sandra Hall uses everything to create prints, cards and children’s books. She uses watercolor, ink, silkscreen and copper plate etchings to create her pieces. Her work can be found at 115 Elm Street.

For those who want 3-D pieces, some artists are making ceramics. Beverly Carter creates vessels, vases and mosaics as well as stoneware. Mège Posner creates pieces that are both functional and enjoyable to look at, which can be found at 220 Smith Neck Road. 

If photography is the preferred medium, there’s artists like Sally Foskett who are using art to expose the beauty and mystery of nature. She can be found at 15 Fremont Street. 

Some pieces are more for show, such as Pokey Park’s sculptures that look into the combination of serious and whimsical in the world, such as sculptures of seahorses, otters and seagulls. Park’s works will be at 17 Rockland Street. Suzanne Volmer’s are more abstract with a focus on the environment. These can be found at 10 Merrymount Drive. 

There’s unique art like Tricia Smith’s jewelry inspired by the natural world, which can be found at 220 Smith Neck Road.

Many artists are sharing studios for the event, allowing guests to explore multiple artists at once. Each day, the studios will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

The entire map spans 15 miles, meaning that there is time to see all the artists.
