Letter to the Editor: On considering changing precinct 9's polling location
To the Editor,
Voters in the Ninth Precinct of Dartmouth Massachusetts deserve a polling place that is close to where they live. Many years ago, the polling location was moved from a central location at the District Two fire station on Russells Mills Road to the Council on Aging. The Council on Aging is also the site of Precinct 6, so we have two polling locations at the same address. When you vote you drive by two other polling locations. The additional mileage from Fire District Two to the council on aging is 9.2 miles.
I have requested the Town Clerk to start the process to move the polling location back to 1100 Russells Mills Road several times and each I have been told no. I recently attended a meeting of the Prudential Committee of Fire District Two and asked them if they would consider hosting the Polling Location and they voted unanimously to make this available.
If you agree that the voters of Precinct Nine deserve a polling location, please let the Precinct boss know when you vote that you would like a polling location in Precinct Nine. If you do not have the opportunity to vote in the local election, please call the office of the Town Clerk and advise her that you desire to have a polling location within the district.
