Gabriel N. "Gabe" DaRosa, 79
Gabriel N. "Gabe" DaRosa, 79, of Dartmouth, passed away October 30, 2025 at home with his loving wife by his side. He journeyed from his Earthly home, guided by the angels, to his forever home in Heaven.
Gabe is survived by his wife of 60 years, Candida (Santos) DaRosa and his devoted sons, Victor DaRosa (wife, Kelly) of Dartmouth and Anthony DaRosa of New Bedford. Gabe leaves behind five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, five sisters, five brothers and he was predeceased by two brothers. Along with many nieces and nephews, Gabe was loved by many lifelong friends who will miss him dearly.
Born in Brava, Cape Verde, son of the late Antonio DaRosa and Angelica Rose, he lived in New Bedford for many years before moving to Dartmouth with his family. Gabe started his career with ExxonMobil as a mate before retiring as a Tugboat Captain.
He was a kind, generous man who helped many without expecting anything in return. Gabe could always be counted on to support a worthy cause and if he was your friend, you were fortunate enough to have a friend for life. He spearheaded and was president, with the help of others, the Escola Materna de Nossa Senhora daGraca, in Brava, Cape Verde. Gabe was also the co-owner of the DaRosa/Serena Distillery in Brava, Cape Verde.
He was one of the founders and past presidents of the Bisca Tournament Club in New Bedford, where he enjoyed playing the Bisca card game. As well as playing cards, he enjoyed going to casinos, car auctions and was an avid Red Sox fan.
His funeral will be held Thursday, November 6, 2025 at 9 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford followed by his Funeral Mass at St. Julie Billiart Church, 494 Slocum Rd., Dartmouth at 10 AM. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, 1213 Kempton St., New Bedford. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, November 5th from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gabe’s name may be made to either the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, in memory of Gabriel DaRosa, P.O.
