Lawrence A. Ferreira, 86

Nov 22, 2020

Lawrence A. Ferreira, 86, of Dartmouth passed away Saturday, November 14, 2020. He was the husband of the late Elaine R. (Costa) Ferreira and the late Fern L. (Sherman) Lipsett Ferreira.

Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Correia) Ferreira. He was a graduate of New Bedford High School and received his Bachelor's Degree from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in Boston.

Lawrence was formerly employed as a registered pharmacist in pharmacies throughout the state, last serving at Brooks Pharmacy in Fall River before retirement.

He was a veteran of the military as a Captain in the Army Medical Corps serving in South Korea and at Fort Devens, MA.

A devout Catholic, Lawrence enjoyed serving his parish of Saint Mary’s in Fairhaven. His roles included usher, lector, Eucharistic minister, and assisting the Pastor in Mass preparation.

As a result of his many years of service to his parish, he was awarded the Marian Medal from the Diocese of Fall River.

Through his many acts of kindness, he carried on the prayer group meetings established by his late wife, Elaine.

The purchase of a SUV was utilized to transport the members to various recreational and educational outings.

Lawrence had a gift for gardening and enjoyed the game of golf for the exercise it provided. He was not concerned with the score he achieved but the challenge was finding old lost golf balls along the fairways.

He was a special individual who enjoyed life’s offerings and will be missed by many for his humorous anecdotal stories.

Lawrence is survived by his brother, Anthony and his wife Janice and his sister, Patricia, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Due to the current pandemic, a private family burial service will be held. A memorial mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church, Fairhaven at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 41 Harding Road, Fairhaven, MA 02719.
