Composting tools
The Greater New Bedford Regional Management District will be giving out free composting materials from 8 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at Crapo Hill Landfill to Dartmouth residents.
Anyone who purchases a $25 backyard compost bin, or anyone who has in the past, can receive a free 2-gallon plastic kitchen counter bin. Four residents will be selected to get a free 1.3 gallon stainless steel kitchen counter bin.
Crapo Hill Landfill is located at 300 Samuel Barnet Boulevard, New Bedford.
Sunday, April 12
The role of media
Torey Malatia — a veteran public media leader and journalist — will give a presentation on the role media has within the broader framework of the First Amendment.
The talk begins at 2 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Registration is requested, and can be done by visiting the UMass Dartmouth library website.
This event is being hosted by the Friends of the Claire T. Carney Library and will be held in the Grand Reading Room of the Claire T. Carney Library at Umass Dartmouth, located at 285 Old Westport Road. Parking will be available in Lot 13.
Poetry to music
Visit Davoll’s General Store to listen to Mattapoisett-based poet Elizabeth Sylvia’s newest collection “Scythe” with flowers and chamber music on Sunday, April 12 at 6 p.m. The poems focus on luxury and privilege in the natural world, celebrating cultivated gardens through the lens of a reimagined Marie Antoinette.
