Dartmouth man arrested for robbery and drug charges in New Bedford
Nicholas Ouimet, 33 of Dartmouth, was arrested on Monday, Jan. 5 after allegedly robbing a CVS and a Walgreens in New Bedford and being found in a stolen vehicle with illicit substances. He is being charged with eight crimes, including robbery and drug charges.
On Monday, Jan. 5, Ouimet was allegedly seen on security footage around 4:30 a.m. at the CVS on Kempton Street reaching over the counter and taking car keys and a number of other items, according to the New Bedford Police Department.
About an hour and a half later, New Bedford police officer Nicholas Abbate received reports of a man slumped over in a stolen vehicle between Nemasket Street and Alva Street. When officers arrived they found Ouimet in the vehicle, according to the New Bedford Police Department.
He was taken into custody, and Abbate searched the vehicle and found a small bag of cocaine and a crack pipe. During the investigation into Ouimet for the illegal substances and stolen vehicle, officers discovered he allegedly robbed the Walgreens on Pleasant Street. He reportedly approached a cashier, and while the register was open grabbed some money and fled the scene.
Ouimet is being charged with unarmed robbery, assault and battery, larceny from a building, shoplifting by asportation, larceny of a motor vehicle, possession of a Class B drug, operating under the influence of drugs and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended or revoked license. He had three outstanding warrants prior to his arrest.
