This time, it was because the town wanted to have a fun day where the community could learn more about the services in town.
The event was hosted at the Council on Aging in partnership with the Dartmouth police. The two organizations host a monthly program, “Stay Safe, Stay Active" and they wanted to create an event for community outreach.
“Part of the community can come out, ask questions about our equipment or anything else,” said policeman Scott Affonse, who helped plan the event, “It’s a good community outreach type thing.”
Many local organizations came out in support. There were two fire trucks, two police cars, two police motorcycles, an ambulance, a police special operations truck, two emergency management agency cars and two Department of Public Works freight liners. The Department of Public Works provided food with the Bucket on the Go food truck.
“It’s a true town collaboration just really to get out and support the community,” said Council on Aging director Amy DiPietro.
Kids and adults got to climb into all the emergency vehicles and explore. At each, there were emergency responders there to answer questions.
According to Affonse, over 500 kids showed up to enjoy the trucks.
Abraham, Declan and Claire all agreed they were enjoying the event, either saying it was “good” or giving it a thumbs-up. Abraham, age 7, said the police truck was his favorite. Siblings Declan, 4, and Claire, 7, both thought the fire truck was the best.
“I like the fire truck and the police truck and the other fire truck,” added Declan.
