Over 2,600 without power as nor'easter slams Dartmouth
Widespread power outages have been reported across Dartmouth, with 2,606 Eversource customers without power as of 11:25 a.m.
Roughly 11% of Eversource customers are without power. Residents should stay away from downer wires and can report outages by calling 800-592-2000.
The largest outage so far is in South Dartmouth near Smith Neck Road, leaving 1,317 customers without power.
One of the first power outages occurred this morning at 6:31 a.m. near Apponagansett Bay, with 995 customers losing power.
The majority of power outages have occurred south of Route 6.
Eversource is currently evaluating many of these outages, with no restoration times currently available, according to the Eversource outage map.
While Eversource hasn't listed the cause of these outages, strong winds and the weight of the snow on tree limbs can down power lines, according to the National Weather Service.
Communications Manager Jessica Dastous said that some outages have been caused by the weight of the snow causing trees to fall on power lines and from transformers blowing.
The storm is expected to bring between 14 and 21 inches of additional snow accumulation and wind gusts up to 75 mph.
