Field hockey scores a goal toward season goal
The Dartmouth High School varsity field hockey team continued their winning streak with another win on Wednesday, Oct. 1 against Durfee High School, putting them at six wins, one loss and one tie.
Dartmouth Week reporter Kat Sheridan attended the game and talked to team coach Beth Arguin and team captain Kaelyn Zuber about the game and season.
Q: How was the game today?
Arguin:We won, but it was not one of our best games. It wasn’t very pretty for the first three quarters. We just need to work on some things, we need to fix a few things, I just feel we were a little flat-footed playing today.
Zuber: I think it wasn’t our strongest game. I know the score board looks good but I think we definitely could have played better. We’re a very strong team and that was one of our weaker games.
Q: How has the season been going?
Arguin:We’re doing well, now we’re 6-1-1, it’s going in our favor at the moment. We do need to pick it up if we’re going to be ready for tournament. We’re going to have to pick up our pace a little bit and pull it together.
Zuber: I think very good. I think we thought we weren’t going to be that great, but I think we’re actually really good this season. We have a lot of potential and we really get along with each other and have good team chemistry.
Q: What’s the goal for this season?
Arguin:To make tournament, to get better, win some games and just get stronger. And work as a team.
Zuber: To win state champs, and just be better and have fun.
Q: What are some of the challenges the team has faced?
Arguin:They were just getting in their own way today. Of course we won, but they just weren’t where they were supposed to be.
Zuber:My sophomore year, two years ago, we went 17-0 and then we lost 17 girls, which is a huge thing. The biggest struggle we had was everyone had to step up and step forward. But everyone has done a great job and have really proved themselves.
Q: What’s the next step?
Arguin: Keep working at practice, trying to correct the things we’re doing wrong, watching film, and just trying to make improvements and making some adjustments to make sure we’re playing the best we can.
Zuber: We’re going to keep working hard, hopefully beat all our next competitions, and we’re going to have a great season.
The team will be facing off against Apponequet Regional High School in an away game on Friday, Oct. 3. Their next home game will be on Wednesday, Oct. 8 against Bridgewater-Raynham Regional High school.
