Free printmaking workshops at UMass Dartmouth

The UMass Dartmouth College of Visual and Performing Arts will be offering three free beginner-friendly printmaking workshops this summer as part of the school's Summer Community Projects program.

The workshops are designed to introduce community members to different print making techniques, such as stencil printmaking, linocut and monoprint. No prior experience is required, and all materials will be provided.

All three courses will be held at the UMass Dartmouth Art & Design Studios at 458 State Road, located in the Dartmouth Towne Center Plaza. Each course is limited to six participants.

Creative Stencil Printmaking

On Wednesday, July 29, learn how to design, cut and print with handmade stencils. This workshop is open to anyone interested in creative artmaking and will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Each participant will receive all necessary materials, including a tote bag or 8x5-inch canvas zipper pouch, fabric paint or stencil-cutting tools.

Creative Linocut Printmaking

On Wednesday, Aug. 5, learn how to carve linoleum blocks to create unique, custom prints on both paper and fabric.

Held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., this workshop will introduce essential printmaking techniques through hands-on practice.

Participants will get to take home a collection of original prints and handmade pieces.

Creative Monoprint Art

On Wednesday, Aug. 12, learn a variety of monoprinting techniques using ink, rich textures and organic materials like dried leaves or flowers.

This workshop will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and is designed for beginners and anyone curious about printmaking, this workshop requires no prior experience.

Participants will take home a collection of original prints, created on materials like postcard paper.
