Who let the dogs out in Padanaram? Just under 50 dogs took over the Milbury and Company parking lot, with some looking fetching and others were ‘pup’ to no good.
Millbury and Company hosted the fourth annual Dog Show during the Padanaram Village Summer Festival on Saturday, July 25.
“There’s so many dogs in the greater Dartmouth area, Padanaram, and we see them walking everyday,” said George Leontire, who judged the show. “It’s just a fun thing. And believe it or not, not just the kids, but the older adults really enjoy it.”
Leontire had all the dogs circle around for the crowd, and awarded each of them a category to compete in.
After, all of the dogs in the category stood in front and had the crowd choose a winner through cheers.
The golden retriever Marverick won in the “Best Coat and Groom” category. Two dogs won the “Most Personality” award, Kiki and Lady Bonnie Waffles. Jimmy Jugs was dressed up as the shark from Jaws and won “Best Costume.” Sandy and Cocomo took home the award for the dog that looks most like their owner.
Rosie the labrador won “Most Rambunctious.” Brody the West Terrier won “Cutest.” The award for “Best Trot” went to Olli the poodle. Last but not least, Squirrel the Great Pyrenees won “Most Unphased”.
After the winners were chosen, the crowd chose one overall winner. With an overwhelming scream, Maverick the golden retriever won. His owner, Kyle, came from San Francisco to visit family and decided to enter Maverick in the contest.
“Maverick’s part of the family, and we’re glad he won,” said Kyle.
The general reason many gave for entering the show was a love for their dogs. Joe Carvalho entered his dog to meet other dogs. Nine-year-old Florie entered her dog because “She’s really cute and she deserves it.”
“Trophy or no trophy, she’s the best dog,” Neal Wolkoff of Vermont, who is in town visiting his brother, said of his dog
As the people at Millbury and Co. love dogs, each dog trotted away with a trophy.
